Working with B Street

Frequently Asked Questions

What areas do you serve?

B Street happily serves two locations. Our first headquarters are in California, where our design studio serves San Diego, La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas, Point Loma, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Mt. Helix, and La Mesa.

Our second office is in Iowa, where our construction and design business serves West Des Moines, South of Grand, Waterbury, Urbandale, Winterset, Van Meter, Waukee, and the surrounding communities. If you don’t see your location on this list, feel free to ask us.

B Street’s leaders blend separate 15-year careers in luxury interior design and construction into a single, in-house design and build experience. Having one multidisciplinary team — and a family mentality — affords several benefits to our clients:

  • A concierge-level experience, with only one point of communication

  • Greater project efficiency, thanks to in-house collaboration

  • Cost savings due to efficiency and hiring fewer parties

  • A unified, approved, and executed vision; nothing lost in translation

  • Complete trust in a team whose values reflect your own

For optimal results, it’s ideal to discuss your project with us before any concrete decisions are made. Even if we don’t decide to work together, we often share invaluable insights into order of operations and which roles your project will need.

If we do decide to work together, we will spend our preliminary conversations coming up with a plan, enlisting other needed professionals (such as an architect), and nailing down the details that will create luxurious and personalized spaces you’re proud to call home. More on our process here.

Note: As a boutique studio that gives each client our full attention, we only accept a select number of projects per year. We encourage you to reach out early to ensure we can meet your desired completion date.

Although we offer a complete design and build experience in-house, your project may require specialty trades, such as carpenters, painters, electricians, plumbers, and flooring experts. As part of our commitment to service, we manage the vetting and hiring of all trades and subcontractors.

Our clients value this part of our service, which can be very time-consuming and stressful to do on your own. However, if you already have a specialist you know and love, we would be happy to connect with them and collaborate on your home where possible.

It happens! Though we encourage you to hire us for the entire design and build process, if you have already found a team — or our team is booked — we are happy to work with other trade professionals. We can also refer you to trusted professionals we have vetted over our 15+ years in the industry.

In full transparency, the length of the design and build process depends entirely on the scope of your project, material availability, lead times, and more. Although timing is impossible to predict your timeline without discussing your project’s specifics, here is what the industry is generally seeing for the design and build of these project types:

  • New build, custom home: 18-36 months

  • Full-home remodel: 12-18 months

  • Partial-home remodel: 8-12 months

  • Luxury kitchen remodel: 4-6 months

  • Luxury bathroom remodel: 4-6 months

  • Light kitchen renovation: 3-4 months

  • Light bathroom renovation: 2-3 months

Note: These ranges do NOT take the place of an official estimate from your design-build team. They also don’t take into account wait times if your desired professionals are booked out.

Much like project timelines, investment size varies drastically based on a project's scope, home size, the quality level of desired materials and appliances, etc. It is impossible to give you a ballpark number here, but we will absolutely discuss it.

Once we know what you’re looking for, we can give you an appropriate range, again, based on our 15+ years of experience in the industry. We also make sure to discuss numbers and get quote approvals at every stage of the process for full transparency and confidence.

Absolutely. The advantage of working with a design-build firm like ours is that we handle all purchasing: construction materials, fixtures, furniture, and furnishings for your project. This ensures seamless project execution and allows us to leverage our network of vendors for high-quality products, excellent customer service, and endless opportunities for customization.

Of course, we are happy to incorporate some of your existing pieces into the design as well, such as heirlooms, travel mementos, photography, or sentimental items. We want to help our clients design homes where they are comfortable, able to live out their ideal lifestyle, and most importantly, happy.

Strong, honest relationships are at the heart of every great design project, which is why we invite you to schedule an introductory call with us first. We’ll gather information about your project and preferences, explain our approach, and establish a rapport. If there is a mutual fit, we’ll get the ball rolling.
