A Colorful Legacy

Originally built in 1922, this historic Craftsman home gracefully balances its early 20th-century character with fresh, modern energy. The remodel and addition was completed in 2024 and provided an updated design that embraced both tradition and personality. We opened up the kitchen to the dining room to improve flow, and layered in architectural elements like wall paneling and exposed beams to reintroduce charm and character, as well as a fireplace surround from the 1890's. Throughout the home, lively color palettes and thoughtful detailing reflect our creative energy and appreciation for timeless design. We preserved and enhanced original features wherever possible, including the hardwood floors, which now feature a custom wood inlay in the dining room for added visual interest. Brick from the historic Des Moines Brick Company—originally part of the home's exterior—was veneered and reused on the fireplace hearth and in the mudroom, grounding the home in its past. With spaces that feel both collected and cohesive, this renovation honors the home's roots while making room for everyday living.
